Raider Nation History

Four friends, Farron Preshea Haley (d. 2001), Dedrick Haley, Derick Hopson, and Anthony Quinn, grew up playing sports and loving the discipline, teamwork, commitment, and desire to strive for excellence that derives from sports training.

In 1987-1988, Shea didn't have enough players to form the Oakshire Raiders team.  At the same time, Derick and Dedrick  were trying to form the Coro Lake Vikings and didn't have enough players.  Soon they combined their teams to form the the Oakshire Raiders team.  Anthony Quinn joined the team in 1989.

The Oakshire Raiders played from 1989 - 1994 against various teams until they landed in the Westwood League through 1998.  In 1999, the Raiders joined the Whitehaven league.

After the death of Coach Shea in 2001, the Raiders joined the Whitehaven Junior Sport Association (WJSA).  They remained there until 2006.  During this time, they were nicknamed the "Whitehaven Raiders".

In 2007, coaches Anthony Quinn and Marcus Mitchell led the Raiders to join Shelby Youth Sports (SYS), an organization that had been in the Memphis area for over 40 years.  They were officially named the WHITEHAVEN RAIDERS.
